Our first NUDE Swimming Facility
Today we took a journey to Monte Mare. Click here to check out the site . It is an indoor/outdoor swimming facility with 2 big water slides, indoor and outdoor kiddie pools, sauna, wave pool….Ya get the picture, right? Oh, that’s only half of it. On the other side, hidden from anyone’s view, is the same thing, minus the kiddie pools, only no bathing suits are allowed. Hmmmm.
When we walked in we were trying to find the swimming area and were very close to entering the nude part of the park. If it weren’t for two English speaking women who had just been kicked out of that area for wearing suits, our kids would have seen more of Germany than they ever anticipated :-). We managed to avoid the nude part, but I knew the title would get ya here…..ya perverts! Ria wanted to check it out, but I’m not thinking I’ll ever have that desire. Well, should this diet I’m on produce a svelt, much more confident person, maybe, but I doubt it :-). One of the best things about this place is it has been sitting right under our noses about 15 minutes from where we live. A great day for the family as Gabe and Chaya had a blast!! Ria wants to get a sitter and just the two of us go back some time…..GET YOUR MINDS OUTA THE GUTTER…Goodness!! Just to have a day to ourselves…it would be welcome and very relaxing!
That’s not why I chose to blog about it though. We had been there maybe an hour, just swimming around with the kids on our backs and as I was having the same exact thought, Ria said it…“I don’t think I have ever been swimming in public without feeling self-conscious about how I look.” I don’t think we could have ever had that feeling anywhere back home. I happen to think Ria has no reason to feel that way anyway, but ya know women. I, on the other hand, am a pretty big guy and I usually get looks like “wow, you come outside lookin like that?” It’s the culture, I guess as Ria and I are guilty of it too and this is what sparked the thought in both of us. We swim around checkin everyone out and notice that it seems to be a rule in Germany that if you’re male and swimming, you must wear a speedo. ALL OF THEM!! I’m not kiddin! But as we’re checkin everyone out, we notice no one is checking us out. Ya see, Germans don’t care what ya look like and that is quite welcome to a fat boy who has had his share of teasing and kids laughing. I’d like to think I have never let it bother me, but then again, I just avoid the situation, so it must cause me some sort of stress. Probably more annoyance than anything else, but not here. If they’re looking at you, it’s long enough to say “Hallo” and that’s it. To top it off, it was 20 euro for the 4 of us and since I get paid in euro, we don’t have to worry about the horrid exchange rate. That’s cool!
So, next time you’re in Kaiserslautern, stop by Monte Mare. A good time all year round!
